Ben Johnson's speed-first offense gives Bears a chance against loaded Rams roster

Los Angeles may have the bigger names, but Chicago's offensive identity could be the great equalizer.

The Chicago Bears offseason decisions and offensive tendencies are looking far better for head coach Ben Johnson after the last week of blockbuster moves. The Los Angeles Rams established themselves as clear NFC Super Bowl favorites by adding the single-season sack record holder in Myles Garrett. This hands the Rams an incredibly talented pass rush after already adding corners Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson former Super Bowl champions with the Kansas City Chiefs.

For the Bears, from a blue chip talent perspective there is no viable argument Chicago's roster is better. However, the clear advantage the Bears do have is the one way you can beat this level of talent and it is the speed of Ben Johnson's offense. Whether it is Luther Burden, Scotty Miller, Rome Odunze, Kalif Raymond, or Zavion Thomas the one common thread is the ability to beat the defense quickly.

The only way to neutralize a great pass rush or to beat a talented secondary is having an elite quarterback and speed that can create opening before pass rushers are able to get home. Johnson has built Chicago's offense around this mentality and it gives the Bears a puncher's chance even against a roster as talented as the one the Rams boast.

Ben Johnson Offering Bears Obvious Advantage Despite Rams Super Bowl Push

Chicago should be the clearest threat to the Rams for this reason, as well as the unknown ceiling of Caleb Williams. There isn't an offense in the league that has Chicago's speed, as well as a rushing attack in D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai, that can help take some of the energy out of the Los Angeles pass rush.

While this remains a hypothetical matchup for the time being, it does serve as an obvious credit to Johnson. The head coach has given the Bears a chance even against such a loaded roster, with an offensive style that gives Caleb Williams a chance to outgun even the most loaded of rosters.

It is important to note that this isn't to underrate the moves of Los Angeles or the clear favorites the Rams have become. Rather, it is crediting Johnson with what the head coach has created and the obvious ceiling it offers Chicago, even against frustrating odds.

Looking around the league, it is difficult to argue that any other roster has as clear a chance to beat the Rams as Chicago. There simply isn't the elite quarterback talent, head coach, and speed to potentially neutralize a loaded roster.
