The NFL has entered its next stage as the Chicago Bears and the rest of the teams begin their respective training camps. Naturally, with the arrival of the team to Halas Hall, an excitement fills the air as we take that collective step toward the football season's return.
For once as a Bears fan, things don't seem so dire. The Bears are coming off of a division win in which they overcame the Packers to make it there, and then did it again in a rare playoff matchup between the rival franchises. The quarterback position is locked in, the head coach is on offensive genius, and the general manager isn't actively trying to cripple the team. It truly is a good time to be a Bears fan.
Ben Johnson knows last season’s success guarantees the Bears nothing
Though the Bears may have found success in the 2025 campaign, repeating success is often more difficult than it was to achieve in the first place. But best of all, Ben Johnson knows it. He's repeatedly stated that in order to repeat, you must first acknowledge the need to start over. Even if you had a record breaking season in which you dominated the league, it's a new season for everyone, and the wiser coaches acknowledge it.

Coach Johnson clearly understands that the chemistry a team creates doesn't necessarily carry over to the next season, even when you're boasting the same players. As we know, that's not a luxury the Bears have. The turnover on the defense isn't great, and many pundits and experts are expecting the already low-rated defense to take a step back.
That's why the beginning of training camp is so important. If they're going to weave that chemistry into the fabric of the team the hard way, they need to start as soon as they possibly can. The window for playoff possibilities has opened, and the Bears have a great need to get started now.
Last season proved what a close-knit Bears team can accomplish, but it offers no guarantees to the group taking the field now. Before Chicago can repeat its success, these Bears must discover their own version of the secret sauce that made it possible.
