Garrett Bradbury was among the first of many free agent signings the Bears executed this offseason. The veteran center's experience was a sure-fire reason for the Bears to pick him up following the surprise retirement of Drew Dalman. Bradbury's name was quickly accepted as the answer to the now gaping hole at the center position until the drafting of Logan Jones out of Iowa. Now, many fans and pundits question exactly how the dynamic may play out through the course of the season, and Ben Johnson's comments show that the position may be more in Bradbury's hands.

The center position is often one of the most underrated positions in all of football. Not only is it one of the most important, but it can be one of the most challenging. The communication between the center and the quarterback must be more on point than any relationship on the field. It's always apparent to any fan watching a game at home when the center and the quarterback aren't on the same page. It's one of the quickest ways to ruin an offense, and it just goes to show how important it is to have an excellent communicator there.
It's high praise for Ben Johnson to be speaking with the media about Bradbury the way he did. His experience before coming to Chicago speaks for itself. Having that sort of experience in multiple different types of offensive systems is only beneficial to him as he learns the Bears way of doing things at the same time as being a mentor to young Logan Jones.
Jones' presence on the field should be a calming one in the wake of the brief panic that followed Dalman's sudden retirement. But Chicago fans should rest easy knowing they have Bradbury on board, and Jones right behind him. If Ryan Poles and the Bears' front office has played their cards right, the Bears shouldn't need to worry about the center position for the foreseeable future.
