The Chicago Bears were facing lofty expectations at the end of the summer when head coach Ben Johnson made it clear he wanted to have a record-setting offense. The coach wasn't shy about the fact that he wanted to blow teams off the field and take every opportunity to push Chicago to the top of the league. With this in mind, there has been a bit of a change ahead of Week 1 as Johnson made it clear that the focus is on the week ahead and executing in the little things.
Johnson's comments are a far more common approach you expect from a coach. One that points to the need to take each week with a step back understanding the importance of not looking too big picture and keeping the focus on each week ahead.

As much as Johnson's lofty prediction might feel well within reach, it isn't the type of message you want to be sending to other teams. Johnson being so incredibly loud with these goals isn't ideal for Chicago and makes an already well-covered team a bigger target. No question, these are the types of quotes you want to be coming out while ideally Johnson presses down the gas and pushes for obvious goals.
Chicago being the league's best offense is very much on the table when you consider the expected leap that Caleb Williams will take and a stacked group of playmakers; it is difficult not to see the clear potential ceiling of the unit.

Johnson has made headlines consistently since joining the Bears not being afraid to take shots at rivals or be honest about the team's lofty goals. With this in mind, the latest comment is a big of a switch and unquestionably a positive decision as the Bears have no reason to make the franchise a bigger target.
The Bears have an already difficult battle as the franchise is in arguably the league's best division in the NFC North. Chicago has no reason to make things more difficult and Johnson offering bold goals is unquestionably doing this.
Dialing back and focusing on week-to-week is a wiser approach and hands the Bears a chance to upgrade.
