The Chicago Bears have been using the past weeks to get on the practice field to start preparing for the 2025 season.

With head coach Ben Johnson calling the shots now, he's looking to change the culture and establish what he wants to run going forward. The expectation is that the offense will take a leap with Johnson, but we won't be able to see them in action wearing pads for a couple more weeks.

The Bears wrapped up mandatory minicamps on Thursday, but they were seen practicing some trick plays. Offensive linemen were seen running routes and catching passes, indicating the Bears could pull this out sometime during the season.

Johnson said, "I think we've got some toys to work with."

Bears Practicing New Trick Plays

During his tenure in Detroit, Johnson used offensive linemen on multiple occasions. He will use anyone on the offense to create a big chunk play, and he wants to get his big fellas used to running some routes and catching the ball. You never know when he'll have to pull a play like that out.

In Thursday's session, multiple offensive linemen were running routes and catching the ball.

Granted it's only June, so we can't read too much into this, but it's clear Johnson is cooking up and has something up his sleeve in that playbook.

That is one of the things that made Johnson one of the brightest offensive minds in the league. He isn't afraid to dial up a play that will catch defenses off guard.

The Bears have their last phase of OTAs running from June 9 to June 11 before departing for a few weeks. When training camp starts in July, it'll be interesting to see if the Bears practice some more trick plays in front of the media. Regardless, it's clear Chicago plans to have new plays called in 2025, and some offensive linemen may be on the receiving end of some passes.
