The Chicago Bears are officially done with the 2025 NFL preseason following Friday night's 29-27 comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bears found a way to battle back despite trailing by 17 points twice, and will finish the exhibition slate with a 2-0-1 record, giving them some solid momentum ahead of head coach Ben Johnson's first regular season in the Windy City.
With the preseason over, Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline is the next important date on the Bears' calendar. Although some Chicago fans won't be sad to see certain underperforming individuals go, other players will be tougher to let go of, including one of the team's top preseason standouts.
Bears WR Tyler Scott Will Be Hot Ticket if Cut by Chicago
It isn't a secret that Bears wide receiver Tyler Scott hasn't lived up to expectations. The former Cincinnati Bearcat has struggled to produce in the NFL after being drafted 133rd overall by Chicago in 2023, recording only 18 catches for 173 receiving yards without a touchdown in 28 games (4 starts). He's also been used as a kick returner, converting 13 attempts into 315 yards.
In other words, Bears fans were hoping to see an elevated performance from the 23-year-old WR this preseason, and that's exactly what they've received. In his three preseason appearances, Scott has caught 7-of-8 targets for 99 yards, one touchdown, and five first downs. He's also tallied 47 yards after the catch, with his longest reception being a 35-yarder.
Even though he had a strong preseason, Scott will still face an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, and Luther Burden III are set to be the Bears' top wideouts, while Olamide Zaccheaus, Devin Duvernay, and Miles Boykin help round out the unit. With all those NFL-caliber receivers in the mix, it makes sense to cut one for roster space.
Unless Scott's experience with Chicago gives him an edge over Boykin, the former might be sent packing during next week's cuts.
Scott's NFL career hasn't gone as planned, but he's still young enough to catch another team's attention. He doesn't turn 24 years old until October, has experience as a returner and pass-catcher, and his strong preseason will only add to his stock. It wouldn't be shocking if he were scooped up mere days after a potential cut.
With the 53-man roster cut-off date right around the corner, Bears fans will know more about Scott's fate sooner rather than later.
