The 2-1 Chicago Bears take on the 1-2 New York Jets at Soldier Field on Sunday as Chicago attempts to navigate the NFL without the help of their star quarterback. The Bears announced their final injury report for the Week on Saturday, and there may be some surprising names on the list.
Caleb Williams is dealing with a hamstring injury and is widely expected to miss at least a couple more weeks. He was out for all days of practice and officially ruled out of the Week 4 match against the Jets. Accompanying Williams on the list was Braxton Jones, who went down with a knee injury against the Eagles and has also been ruled out.
Bears are trending healthier at the right time
Kyler Gordon made an appearance on this week's injury report. The Bears activated the cornerback's 21-day practice window in accordance with the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list rules, and they now have under three weeks to activate him. He's been officially ruled out for this week's game.
Shemar Turner and Noah Sewell, both also within their 21 day practice window on the PUP list, were both listed as limited participants until being elevated to full participation by Friday. In an abundance of caution, they've both been ruled out for the game against the Jets, but given that they've been on the list two weeks in a row, meaning they'll more than likely be elevated off of the PUP list by the Week 5 game in Green Bay.
D'Andre Swift again reappeared on the injury report due to a lingering knee injury, and he didn't practice on Thursday because of it. He was elevate back to full participation by Friday, and carries no designation for the Jets game.
Lineman Joe Thuney, Jonah Jackson, and Grady Jarrett all carried various personal or rest designations through the week, but by Friday, the group had been back to full practice and none of them carry any sort of injury designation for Sunday against the Jets.
Cam Lewis is the name to watch due do his doubtful designation. He was limited in practice during the week, and a didn't practice on Friday, leading many to believe the veteran corner won't be making an appearance in the secondary.
Though the injury report may not be as clean as it once was this season, there's multiple different encouraging signs. From Kyler Gordon potentially returning from his mysterious injury to Ozzy Trapilo not making an appearance on the list, the Bears are in good shape.
For all weeks to be short handed, this may be one of them. Without Breece Hall in the lineup, the Jets' run game will be thin, and the Bears coaching staff has ample experience against their head coach, this quarterback, and this team. Sewell, Turner, and Gordon all on their route back to the team means the next few injury reports are likely to look different.
A win on Sunday puts the Bears one step closer to retaking their spot on top of the NFC North. With the division race already well in hand, a 3-1 record heading into Lambeau for Week 5 sounds awful nice.
