The Chicago Bears beat the Philadelphia Eagles in impressive fashion with a 27-7 win. There are plenty of takeaways from the game, but what are the biggest potential overreactions that need a few more weeks before we can be certain?
Chicago Bears Biggest Week 3 Takeaways
Caleb Williams is holding the offense back
This is not to say that the Bears have a quarterback controversy and that Case Keenum is a better option. At his peak, Williams is the best thing for the Bears offense. However, Williams is too boom-bust at this point. The best plays are things that Keenum cannot do.
At the same time, from a snap-in and snap-out basis, the Bears need more consistency from Williams. This game showed that Williams needs to stay on schedule more often.
Rome Odunze will not live up to expectations
In year one, the argument for Odunze struggling was that the offense was holding back. Last year, he started hot and got hurt and could not finish the season as strong. Now, Odunze is in year three, the excuses are gone, and he is being outperformed by Kalif Raymond. At some point, you have to admit that it is not going to happen.
Odunze could end up as a fine receiver, but we are now getting into the heart of his third season, and he has not lived up to his draft slot.
Kalif Raymond is not going anywhere
Raymond leads the Bears in targets, catches, and yards. Before the season, there were three names being debated to lead in those categories, and none of them are Raymond. It is easy to think that Odunze, Luther Burden, and Colston Loveland will step up and outperform Raymond from here.
However, Raymond knows the playbook well, and the coaches trust him. Even if the other receivers start to step up, it is hard to see Raymond going anywhere. It is time to start thinking he will have a career year in Chicago.
Malik Muhammad should stay on the outside
Muhammad started in the slot for the first two weeks but moved outside due to the injury of Tyrique Stevenson. Muhammad is undersized, and it can bite him at times. However, he played on the outside in college and looked comfortable in the spot.
Muhammad outside, with Cam Lewis in the slot and Xavier Woods at safety, is better than Lewis at safety, with Muhammad in the slot and Stevenson outside.
