There is no question that in the Chicago Bears' 2026 preseason opener, no player was more impressive than Case Keenum. The quarterback only missed a single pass and threw a pair of touchdowns in what was as nice of a preseason showing as could've been hoped for. Keenum is building momentum and using it to build up his teammates, pointing out one receiver via BearsMuse who has an undeniably difficult battle to make the team's final roster.
"We have a deep receiver room, and that really helps the quarterback room in the preseason, especially with some guys sitting out today. Kaden has great speed down the field and is a big strider who can really threaten defenses. He's experienced and a guy we can count on to be in the right place at the right time. I've really enjoyed throwing to him."Case Keenum
Kaden Davis finished Chicago's preseason opener with four catches on six targets for 88 yards in what was an impressive performance. One that is going to keep slim hope alive that perhaps the speedy option can find his way into the final depth spot on Chicago's roster. This is why Keenum starts out his comment by talking about just how deep this room is moving towards the 2026 season.
Looking at the current options, there is no debating that Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, Kalif Raymond, Zavion Thomas, and Jahdae Walker are all expected to make the roster. If the Bears carry six receivers as expected, this leaves only one spot in question, with veteran Scotty Miller being pointed to as a potential favorite to land the roster spot.
Bears Quarterback Case Keenum Builds up Overlooked Receiver Kaden Davis
Davis does have a bit of a pulse when you factor in the preseason performance and the obvious speed. Ben Johnson puts an obviously high level of value on having speedy playmakers capable of lining up in a myriad of roles. It is easy to see Davis as a weapon that Johnson could creatively utilize, leaving a chance the young pass catcher can fight his way into the sixth spot on the depth chart.
It is incredibly telling that Keenum went out of his way to build up the receiver and attempt to increase his chances of making the roster. The veteran quarterback garners a high level of respect and has been speculated as a potential coaching hire once he does eventually call it a career.
With this in mind, Keenum commenting on the situation and doing so as loudly as he did makes it clear that the aging quarterback is pulling for the pass catcher to make the final roster. For this to happen, Davis must repeat his first preseason performance in the next two games and leave no question that the coaching staff must put him in a reserve role.
