The Chicago Bears should trade backup quarterback Tyson Bagent if they get a decent offer for him, according to Moe Moton of Bleacher Report. The issue might not be about trading him and more about getting a good enough offer, though.
The Chicago Bears could trade Tyson Bagent before the 2026 season begins
The Bears have been open to taking phone calls on Bagent, and they have been adamant that if the right offer comes up, they would not hold him here as a backup if he has a chance to start elsewhere. So, the holdup is likely less on the Bears' side.
There are teams that need quarterbacks, and there are teams that like Bagent, but it is hard to find the right fit for the right price.
First, he has just 149 career pass attempts, and he has one more year after this on his contract. He has thrown just six attempts in the past two years, so teams are getting a bit of a mystery, and they will have to decide after this year whether to extend him or let him enter a lame duck season. That is tough to give up significant capital to take on.
More than that, at this stage in the offseason, plenty of teams have resolved their quarterback situation, or they are happy with where they stand.
The Arizona Cardinals could be viewed as a quarterback-needy team by some, but they drafted Carson Beck, they signed Gardner Minshew in free agency, and they have Jacoby Brissett. They do not have a legitimate starter yet, but they also have enough internal options that they are not interested in adding Bagent.
The same can be said with a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers, who just re-signed Aaron Rodgers after drafting Drew Allar. At this point, Bagent would just make things muddy.
Even with teams like Miami and Cleveland, if things do not go well with Malik Willis and Shedeur Sanders, that likely puts them in line to pick a new quarterback next year. So, adding Bagent only props up the floor and makes adding a new name tougher.
The path to the Bears trading Bagent would likely involve a quarterback getting hurt during training camp on a team that feels that it can contend. Bagent would keep the ship afloat or give them a dice roll. As of now, it is hard to find the right suitor.
