Bears Steal Another Former Commanders Defender in Stunning Projected Trade
By Cem Yolbulan
As the Chicago Bears are preparing for their Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, the November 5 trade deadline is looming. Despite a 4-3 start to the season, the Bears are in last place in the ultra-competitive NFC North. With hopes of making the postseason, Chicago can't afford to take their foot off the gas.
That means they have to explore every trade opportunity before Tuesday. One area they will presumably consider upgrading is their pass rush rotation. One player who may be available via a trade is Chase Young of the New Orleans Saints. The 25-year-old defender is presumably on the trade block after six straight losses by New Orleans. Considering that his contract expires at the end of the season, they should be open to moving him for draft compensation.
This is reminiscent of the deal the Bears made with the Washington Commanders for Montez Sweat at last year's deadline. They gave up a second-round pick and immediately extended his contract for four years, $98 million. Sweat immediately made a huge impact on the defensive unit, registering six sacks in nine games.
Similarly, Young was also a first-round pick in Washington who went on to become a Pro Bowler there before being traded to the 49ers in his fourth season. He signed with the Saints in the 2024 offseason and put up 15 QB pressures, two sacks, and 18 tackles so far this season.
Uniting Sweat and Young once again could do wonders for the Bears pass rush. Chicago has been much better on that front this season, but contending NFL teams can never have too many edge defenders. Chase Young is certainly worth a look.
