Bears Desperately Trying to Trade Veteran With Shocking Concession
By Cem Yolbulan
The Chicago Bears are 4-3 heading into their Week 9 clash against the Arizona Cardinals before they host the Patriots. They have an excellent chance to go on a winning streak before their first in-division game of the season in Week 11 against the Packers.
However, the vibes in the organization aren’t as good as one would expect from a young team with a rookie quarterback who is performing above expectations. After the last-second loss to the Commanders, there has been tension between the players and the coaching staff.
With the November 5 trade deadline looming, the Bears will try to improve the roster to try to make a run for it in the ultra-competitive NFC North.
One of the most obvious moves they are considering is trading offensive lineman Nate Davis. In fact, according to the latest reporting by Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, the Bears are so desperate to move on from the veteran that they are willing to eat some of his salary to facilitate a deal.
"Chicago’s Nate Davis is available. And the Bears are prepared to cover some of his $8 million salary to facilitate."
- Jeremy Fowler, ESPN
For Bears fans, this doesn't come as a surprise. The veteran offensive lineman has disappointed ever since he signed a three-year, $30 million deal in the 2023 offseason.
After missing six games last season, he started the 2024 campaign as the right guard. He eventually fell out of favor and lost his starting role to Matt Pryor after five games. Pryor has been much better in his place, making Davis superfluous going forward.
An offensive lineman-needy team could be interested in Davis but they will presumably be unwilling to pay much for him, especially considering his salary. At this point, it's clear that the Bears just want to move on and will likely settle for anything they can get for him.
