Bears Star Named as Potential Trade Candidate Following 2024 Disaster
The Chicago Bears 2024 season was a massive disappointment. Going 5-12 and missing the fourth straight season isn't the way fans thought the season was going to pan out.
The Bears are currently undergoing a head coach deep dive, seeking to find the new leader of the team. Getting a new head coach is the No. 1 thing on the list but Chicago still has their hands full this offseason.
Speculation around the league has started flying. ESPN's staff released an article discussing free agency, draft, and other predictions for all 32 teams in the league. In that article, they suggested that WR D.J. Moore may get traded to a rebuilding team in the AFC.
Bears Rumors: D.J. Moore Floated as a Trade Target for New England Patriots
Benjamin Solak predicted that the New England Patriots could make a run at Moore this offseason as they search for a WR1.
Solak wrote, "After trying (and failing) in the Tee Higgins market, the Patriots will put together a solid trade for a veteran receiver. DK Metcalf and DJ Moore are the two names that make the most sense. The Patriots won't mind sending away draft capital for immediate contributors, as they plan to trade out of the No. 4 overall pick anyway."
That likely isn't what Chicago fans want to hear. In July 2024, Moore and the Bears agreed on a four-year, $110 million extension to keep him around for the long haul. In two seasons with Chicago, he's logged 194 catches (276 targets) for 2,330 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. In his first season with the Bears, he went over 1,000 yards but his production dipped in 2024. He had 98 catches for 966 yards and six touchdowns.
The Bears already have Keenan Allen hitting free agency, so moving on from Moore is risky for an offense that has Caleb Williams going into his second year.
If they did want to flip Moore, the Pats would be a good choice. First off, they are in the AFC. Secondly, New England is in desperate need of a WR1 and would give up the draft capital to land him. They have Drake Maye over there and badly want to get him a reliable playmaker.
Chicago has Rome Odunze in the fold and could re-sign Allen to a one-year deal to keep continuity.
The Bears have a lot of work to do this offseason, and Moore's name has come up as a potential trade candidate. We'll just have to see if there's any truth to it.
