Bears Star Sounds in Favor of Coaching Legend Getting Chicago Job
By Joe Summers
The Bears are one game away from ending this miserable season and starting one of the most important head coaching searches in franchise history. One surprise name popped up last week, and star WR D.J. Moore just revealed his thoughts on the option.
Legendary coach Pete Carroll, who won a Super Bowl in Seattle and helped turn Russell Wilson into a potential Hall of Fame quarterback, emerged as a potential candidate last week. He took a year off from coaching after going 9-8 with the Seahawks in each of the last two years and represents the kind of person who can transform the organization's poor culture.
During his weekly interview with 670 The Score in Chicago, Moore sounded in favor of hiring someone like Carroll.
D.J. Moore Breaks Silence on Rumors Tying Pete Carroll to Bears
"He's respected, and he has done it at a high level," Moore said during his interview. "Everybody would have to pay attention and listen. Because he has done it already."
That kind of experienced leadership is something the franchise has lacked. There are organizational issues that must be addressed, particularly with the seemingly strained relationship between Ryan Poles and Kevin Warren, though Carroll would immediately establish credibility for a team in desperate need of it.
Despite all of the losing, Caleb Williams appears to be a legitimate franchise quarterback. Weapons like Moore and talented rookie Rome Odunze give Williams exciting weapons while the defense remains loaded with talent. Addressing the offensive line is a primary concern in the offseason, but finding the right coach is of the utmost importance.
Throughout his 14-year tenure with Seattle, Carroll compiled a 137-89-1 record while making two Super Bowls. One of the greatest college coaches in history thanks to his tenure at USC as well, Carroll is one of the most respected men in the profession.
At 73 years old, he's likely not a long-term solution. Even still, Carroll is the exact kind of person who can help the franchise transition from embarrassment to credibility.
