Bears Should Be All Over Reported Breece Hall Trade Price

With Breece Hall's reported asking price, the Chicago Bears shouldn't hesitate to make a move.

The Chicago Bears' running game just had their best performance of the season. Perhaps the bye week worked wonders for them, or they wanted to get back at the Washington Commanders for last year's heartbreaking loss. Maybe, they knew they had to bring their A-game with all the trade rumors surrounding the team.

There has been a lot of chatter regarding whether the Bears should move on from D'Andre Swift or pair him with another starting-caliber running back. And, with the latest report about the New York Jets' potential asking price for Breece Hall, those rumors won't go away.

Hall made a post on Instagram with the caption 'Free 20' assuming that the star RB wants out of New York and it made SNY's Connor Hughes check in with several front offices who confirmed the price may not be as high as some have speculated.

Breece Hall's Low Trade Value is Perfect For The Bears

"Talked to a half dozen front office sources late last week for SNY TV pregame," Hughes wrote. "Their consensus on his value: Fifth round pick, potential for fourth if two teams compete for him."

Hall's not-so-cryptic post on social media shows that he's finally changed his stance about potentially being traded, and he now welcomes being saved and driven away from Gotham. However, as talented as he is, his contract situation and history of injuries may scare some teams away, per the report:

"An [assistant general manager] on why his value isn’t higher: Durability concerns, not consistent tough yardage, 'rent a player," Hughes continued. "Hall is on final year of deal. Acquiring team then needs to pay him [which] drops value."

That's even better news for GM Ryan Poles, as the Bears might be in a position to bid against themselves if other teams decide to go after another player like Alvin Kamara or De'Von Achane. But even if that's not the case, the asking price sounds pretty reasonable.

Accommodating his salary with an extension could be tricky, but teams usually find ways to go around the salary cap and get deals done when both parties are interested. Hall could also fit under the current $8.2 million Chicago has in cap space this season according to Over The Cap and could be fit into the future with a few moves despite the Bears' $2.8 million in cap space for 2026.

Through the first six weeks of the season, Hall has logged 88 carries for 410 rushing yards, adding 17 receptions on 24 targets for 150 receiving yards. He has yet to find paydirt, but judging by his team's offensive woes, that's not much of a surprise.

The Bears only have one running back with more than 81 rushing yards after Monday's game, and even if Swift just had his best game of the season, he's still not as good as Hall, making him a logical upgrade if the price is right.
