The Chicago Bears' rookie second-round pick might end up being the most underrated selection in the 2026 NFL draft when we look back on it. Jordan Reid identified the Bears center, Logan Jones, as a pick that could be underrated and define the 2026 season.

The Chicago Bears' second-round pick could be underrated a in his rookie year

The reasoning is obvious. He starts at a position the Bears need. Beyond that, the Bears are a potential playoff team that made a run in the postseason last year. So, Jones could end up starting on a team that makes a playoff run, and he could be a difference maker at a position they needed. That is quite valuable for a second-round pick in his rookie season.

Still, the Bears were in a particular situation. With Drew Dahlman unexpectedly retiring, they were not in the market for a starting center, but things changed quickly. They do have Garrett Bradbury, but the New England Patriots just traded Bradbury because a young player of their own was about to push him out the door.

New England viewed him as a stopgap until their draft pick was ready, and the Bears can do the same thing. Bradbury has plenty of experience and can keep the offense on schedule early in the season. That gives Jones time to get comfortable with the playbook and adjust to the speed of the NFL. The Bears do not have to rush him onto the field, which could end up helping his long-term development.

So, Jones might not get out of the gates with a running head start and might not be a starter early. However, Reid thinks it is only a matter of time before he is on the field.

This could end up similar to their second-round pick last year, Luther Burden. Burden hardly played early in the season as the team did not need him. However, Olamide Zaccheaus was taking most of his snaps, and it was only a matter of time before Burden took over.

Burden was excellent in the last part of the season and had a presence in the playoffs. Now, the arrow is pointing squarely up, and fans are excited about a breakout for Burden. The same could happen for Jones this year, who can be eased into the mix, and then get started in key moments to cement his role for year two.
