Chicago Bears fans did not like how things ended between them and their star wide receiver D.J. Moore last year. However, if Luther Burden is a breakout player in 2026, as many are predicting, Bears fans are going to have to give Moore credit for the success.
When asked about his offseason workout habits, Burden noted that he took a lot away from Moore, including how to be the first one in and last one out type of player.Â
The Chicago Bears' young receiver, Luther Burden, is learning from a past veteran, DJ Moore
This is notable because Ben Johnson highlighted Burden as a player that he saw in the facilities often during the offseason. Johnson is leading the hype train on Burden, and that starts with what Johnson is seeing Burden do away from the playing field. What he does on the field is just that work coming together.Â
Burden was drafted to be a direct replacement for Moore. They are both thick and strong with the ball in their hands. They both work in and out of the slot, and they both run the same route tree. So, Moore likely knew his time with the Bears was short when the team drafted him. However, that did not stop Moore from being the leader that he was and guiding Burden. Moore saw his yards go from 1,364 in 2023 to 966 and then 682 last year.Â
He looked disengaged at times, and fans did not like the way that he conducted himself on the sidelines. However, Burden was quick to clear things up and come to the defense of Moore, saying that what the fans saw was not what was happening behind closed doors.
While Moore was descending, Burden had been taking steps forward and finished with 652 yards. Now that Moore is off the team, the expectation is for Burden to take what he had and add on what Moore was getting.Â
If Burden is able to handle this workload, Bears fans will have to be thankful for Moore. Moore also was a part of the trade that netted them Caleb Williams and a trade that got them back a second round pick from the Bills. He had his ups and downs with the team, but fans have to be grateful for what Moore brought to the team and what he is leaving the team with.
