Now that the Chicago Bears are done with the majority of their offseason moves it is a good time to look back at the best decisions the team made this offseason. What helped their chances to win the Super Bowl?
Chicago Bears five best offseason moves?
Left tackle competition
The Bears were dealt a bad hand at left tackle. Ozzy Trapilo is going to miss this season, but he is expected to be their future at left tackle. So, the Bears needed to fill a gap at one of the most important positions and do it without investing significant resources down the line. They did a great job. They retained Braxton Jones at a bargain, they brought in former first round pick with talent in Jed Wills, and Theo Benedet started last year and will be given a chance. It is a good blend.
Coby Bryant
The Bears safety room was not considered a positon of strength last year. Now, the team completely revamped the room. The first move was adding Bryant in free agency. This gave them a young, impactful free safety with a defined role. The only gripe would be the cost to sign him.
Logan Jones
Chicago was also dealt a bad hand at center with the sudden retirement of Drew Dahlman. Garrett Bradbury was a quick and smart pivot, but the Bears did not mess around with stopgaps, they addressed the position immediately. Jones should push Bradbury early and can grow with Caleb Williams.
Replacing Tremaine Edmunds
The Bears overpaid Edmunds in free agency. However, they admitted their mistake and released him at the first chance that they could based on his contract. D’Marco Jackson was better than Edmunds last year, and the Bears signed him at a fraction of the cost. By doing this, it allowed the team to also spend legitimate money on Devin Bush, who was much better than Edmunds in 2025, and might fit the scheme better. The Bears saved money and upgraded at linebacker.
Dillon Thieneman
This pick fell right into their laps. One of their two biggest needs on draft night was safety. Dillon Thienemenan was clearly the next best safety on the board, he was next best player on most boards, and there was a gap between when Thieneman was drafted and when the next true safety fell off of the board. So, the Bears closed out a tier by adding an instant impact player at a positon of need.
