The Chicago Bears' injury reports have been a wild ride this week, with quarterback Caleb Williams and running back Kyle Monangai essentially swapping places and in totally different spots heading into Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers than they appeared to be just a few days before.

Williams began the week out of practice, which head coach Ben Johnson told media members would be the case up until the contest in Green Bay, which meant Tyson Bagent would start at quarterback. However, all of that changed with the newest update out of Chicago on Friday, October 9.

"Here’s video of Caleb Williams back at practice Friday. On Monday, Ben Johnson said that Williams is 'not going to be there for us this week' against Green Bay and said Tyson Bagent 'will be the guy,'" Courtney Cronin of ESPN posted to X. "Now Williams is listed as QUESTIONABLE for Week 5 against the Packers."

Williams suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain late in the team's Week 2 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He missed the last two starts and had not practiced officially with his Bears teammates until Friday's session.

Chicago will be without running back Kyle Monangai against Packers in Week 5

Meanwhile, Monangai began the week out of practice due to injuries to both his thumb and toe.

Johnson told reporters on Wednesday, after Monangai missed that practice session, that the thumb was of no real concern. Instead, the coach put the RB's absence on hauling the football 30 times against the New York Jets in a dominant win for the Bears' run game.

However, Monangai never returned to the practice field this week. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that his toe injury turned out to be turf toe, citing team sources who said the issue could jeopardize Monangai's availability both against Green Bay and in Week 6 against the Falcons in Atlanta.

Chicago designated Monangai "out" against the Packers at Lambeau Field on Friday after he missed his third consecutive practice. But D'Andre Swift, the team's RB1, had no designation as of 48 hours prior to kickoff despite lingering hip and knee issues. As such, he should be a full-go for the Bears this weekend.

Besides Monangai, linebacker Keyshaun Elliot is the only other Bears player who definitely will not take the field against Green Bay. Alongside Williams, the team listed cornerback Kyler Gordon, linebacker Noah Sewell and defensive lineman Shemar Turner as questionable, per the team's official injury report.

All three of those players began the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and were not eligible to return to action prior to Week 5.

With the Packers in line for Week 5, these decisions become all the more important. The Bears have survived a month on their defense and their rushing attack, but Lambeau on Sunday is where the players still waiting to matter have to show up.
