Before the offseason began, there were some obvious questions that the Chicago Bears needed to answer before they ended the season. Most of the moves have been made, so it is a good time to look at the biggest questions being asked in February and find out what happened in May.
Will the Chicago Bears trade DJ Moore or Cole Kmet?
The Bears decided to trade Moore. Moore and Caleb Williams could not get on the same page, and the addition of Luther Burden made the decision even easier. More interesting to note is that while the team did not trade Cole Kmet, the drafting of Sam Roush might limit his role even more.
What can the Chicago Bears do at left tackle?
It was clear Ozzy Trapilo would not be in the mix back in February, but the team did not have a clear plan then. Since then, the Bears re-signed Braxton Jones, signed free agent Jedrick Wills, and are hoping that between those two and Theo Benedet, they can get one year of starter-caliber play until Trapilo returns.
How can the Chicago Bears upgrade at edge rusher?
It was a clear question before the offseason and remains a question after the NFL draft. The Bears' edge room looks the exact same or arguably worse if you consider that Dominique Robinson is not there. Do they hope Dayo Odeyingbo is healthy, and Austin Booker is better, or do they sign a free agent like Cam Jordon or Joey Bosa?
Should the Chicago Bears cut Tremaine Edmunds and extend D’Marco Jackson?
This made too much sense at the time, and the Bears did it. Jackson was better than Edmunds last year and is going to make a lot less than him. This allowed them to sign Devin Bush as well, which should help them because TJ Edwards might not be healthy for week one. The team saved money and kept the room as good, if not better. This was a win for the Bears.
How can the Chicago Bears upgrade at safety?
The team was unlikely to bring back both Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker; the question was how much they would invest in replacing them. The answer was a lot. Coby Bryant was one of the big free agent signings of the offseason, and Dillon Thieneman is an instant upgrade as a first-round pick. This group looks much improved on paper.
