The Chicago Bears made their official 53-man roster announcement late Sunday afternoon and as always, there were several noteworthy decisions made. Chicago decided to keep rookie undrafted free agent Hayden Large, meaning the Bears will carry four tight ends and Ben Johnson will continue to run a tight end heavy offense.
The main takeaway from this isn't that the Bears kept Large on the roster, but rather that Ben Johnson felt comfortable enough with the five receivers he has in the room to not hang on to another.
The Bears final receiving room is comprised of Luther Burden, Rome Odunze, Kalif Raymond, Jahdae Walker, and rookie Zavion Thomas. Especially considering that both Burden and Odunze have both dealt with injuries, it's clear that Coach Johnson has a high level of trust in Walker and Thomas.

Burden, Odunze, and Raymond will be the primary receivers on the field in most formations, but they aren't going to play 100% of snaps. Walker and Thomas will both get their chances to shine, and Thomas has already displayed in the preseason the types of plays that he's capable of making for this offense.
Veteran Kalif Raymond is already making his presence felt with the young receiving core as well, mentoring Zavion Thomas who will inevitably become the Bears returner of the future, with some fans even saying they see flashes of Devin Hester.
Walker's path to playing time, while not as clear, does exist. Walker flashed in limited snaps towards the end of the 2025-26 season that he is a capable receiver, and if Burden or Odunze were to go down, Bears fans should feel confident in Walker to produce at a high level. He's shown he can make plays when the lights shine the brightest, and that's exactly the type of player you like to have as your fourth or fifth wide receiver. If Ben Johnson didn't believe Walker was the guy, there would be a sixth receiver on the roster.
