Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles worked the phones and got the team a true superstar. The Bears just acquired All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons in one of the biggest trades of the young season.

The Bears will send two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder to the Tennessee Titans to get their superstar defender, who's under contract through the 2030 season. It was a steep price to pay, but that's what you do whenever a superstar becomes available.

Now, with the defensive line getting a massive boost and the offense looking like a championship-caliber unit, there's just one thing left to do if you're Poles: Find some help for the ailing cornerback room.

The Chicago Bears must trade for a cornerback

Dennis Allen entered the season with more questions than answers, at least in the eyes of the fan base. Thus far, the defense has done much better than anticipated, but their outside cornerbacks have struggled.

Tyrique Stevenson will be a free agent at the end of the season, and it's hard to believe the Bears will be too eager to keep him around after years of miscues. As for Jaylon Johnson, he's regressed to the point where he should be benched.

The Bears have already made an all-in type move, so they can't do it half-heartedly. They must round things out by adding at least one starting-caliber guy outside, and there are more than enough potential options right now.

Donte Jackson, Zyon McCollum, Riq Woolen, and Kristian Fulton should all be up for grabs at the right price. While none of them are superstars, they are all bona fide players with extensive starting experience, and they'd be a massive upgrade for this ailing unit.

The Bears' defense is almost complete, but this one weakness can be the difference between winning the division and not even making the playoffs. It might sound like hyperbole, but this is the NFC North we're talking about, and there's still plenty of football to be played this season.

Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson can keep the team in any game, but how many teams have won a Super Bowl by starring in shootout after shootout? You need a solid defense to win in this league, especially in a division full of gunslingers.

This regime clearly has a vision, and the team is definitely trending in the right direction. Simmons will be a Bear for years to come, and finding the final piece of the puzzle can elevate this team from hopeful to contender.
