Bears Named Possible Suitor for Recent Pro Bowl RB This Offseason
Head coach Ben Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles' main focus this offseason is to improve the Chicago Bears trenches. Even so, Johnson will certainly be looking to add players at other positions too. One area he will surely look to improve is the running back room.
During Johnson's time in Detroit, the Lions had the best running-back duo in the NFL. In 2024, David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs both rushed for 1,000 yards. Their success on the ground is definitely something Johnson is looking to duplicate in Chicago.
That said, the talent in the Bears running back room is nowhere close to Detroit's. D'Andre Swift has proven to be a dynamic back at points in his career. While Roschon Johnson has yet to live up to the potential, the Bears organization believes he has some upside.
As a result, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggested Johnson could aim to sign veteran running back Aaron Jones in a recent article.
Could Aaron Jones Be a Bear in 2025?
"New Bears head coach Ben Johnson knows exactly what Jones can offer after repeatedly facing him as the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator. Johnson could also be interested in pairing D'Andre Swift with a back like Jones to form a talented duo like the one he had with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery in Detroit."
- Kristopher Knox
To many Bears fans, Jones has become known as the Bears killer. In 15 career games against the Bears, Jones has 904 rushing yards, 247 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. His combination of speed and power, alongside his catching ability, made him a major threat against the Bears.
Jones's dual-threat ability lines up perfectly with what Johnson had in Gibbs. Despite that, Jones will be turning 31 during the 2025 season, meaning his play could start to decline. Although that's tough to predict, if the Bears sign him, that's a big risk that they will be taking.
Nonetheless, it seems like a worthwhile risk for the Bears to take, even if it's for no other reason than not to face Jones again.
