The Chicago Bears already knew that Caleb Williams was a top five quarterback in the making and had the ceiling to be among the league's elite. However, this offseason has seen things drastically shift after the 2025 season, with top-five debates already being had and Williams being put on the cover of Madden 27. Even rival players are showing incredible respect with Green Bay Packers star rusher Micah Parsons, who recently named the quarterback as the best player in the league.
All of this hype is reaching a dangerous level that very quickly is going to expose the mindset of Williams. A player without the obsessive nature needed to be truly great could embrace the hype and have an outlook that doesn't point to the fact that nothing yet has been accomplished. Williams has one playoff win and a solid 2025 season under his belt, with nothing else on his resume showing greatness.
Reaching the heights expected is going to mean ignoring the noise and continuing to work. How Williams responds throughout the summer and in the first weeks of the 2026 season will be incredibly telling. For the Bears, it is noteworthy that the hype has reached such a dangerous level and gives reason for concern when it comes to mounting expectations.
Bears Must Keep Close Eye on Caleb Williams Amid Mounting Expectations
Chicago needs to understand the level of pressure that Williams is now under and do their best to offset the incredible expectations. While this isn't to say that the quarterback cannot reach these heights, it is more so pointing out we are yet to see what happens to the signal caller when the bar is raised. Williams is being discussed in the same circles as Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow when it comes to his potential ceiling.
There are all incredibly accomplished quarterbacks when it comes both to playoff performance and putting up impressive numbers consistently. Williams is now expected to reach this same bar and the Bears are going to learn a lot about the quarterback and whether or not the quickly building hype was too much for the third-year quarterback.
If Williams is who he is believed to be, the noise won't matter, but simply serve as a setup to another great season for the quarterback. Still, it has to be a bit of a concern for fans who are starving for stability at the position and sit back and watch as the bar has quickly jumped from franchise quarterback to expected greatness.
