Bears may already have a linebacker problem heading into 2026 season

Chicago’s linebacker depth chart has talent, but almost every key contributor comes with major questions.

Now that the 2026 NFL draft one is over the big focus is on how the team can build with the roster that has been assmebled. It is a good time to look back at the depth charts at every position to identify what areas are weaker than others. What does the Chicago Bears linebacker depth chart look like right now?

Devin Bush

The Bears moved on from Tremaine Edmunds to sign Devin Bush. Bush is making less than Edmunds, but not substantially. Bush has top-ten draft pick pedigree but only has one season of living up to it. If he repeats 2025 or is better, it is a smart move, but if this year is like the rest of his career, the Bears are in trouble.

TJ Edwards

Edwards fractured his fibula in the NFC Wild Card win against the Green Bay Packers. His status for week one is uncertain and that is a part of why the team decided to add so much depth to the room.

D’Marco Jackson

Jackson is another player who excelled last year, but the question is whether this is a one year blip, or if the Bears found a longer term option with Jackson. He should get chances with Edwards recovering.

Noah Sewell

Sewell got on the field a good bit due to the injuries in the room. He is now in his fourth year, and it will be interesting to see if the team tries to extend him.

Keyshaun Elliott

The rookie fifth-round pick initially looks buried on the depth chart. However, with Edwards out, Sewell having one year left and the other two being one-year wonders, there is a reason the Bears drafted another linebacker.

Jack Sanborn

Things did not work out when Sanborn followed Matt Eberflus to Dallas and now he is back to push for a roster spot in Chicago.

Ruben Hyypolite

After a disappointing rookie season there is a chance that Hyppolite gets cut this offseason

Nephi Sewell

The brother of Noah is hoping to sneak on the roster.

Wayne Matthews

Matthews is a rookie UDFA from Michigan State. At this point he is looking to find his way onto the practice squad.

Jon Rhattigan

Rhattingan has bounced around the NFL since being a UDFA in 2021. He signed after the draft and is likely to just be someone here for depth in training camp.
