Bears edge rusher depth chart reveals glaring concern after NFL Draft

Chicago still has questions behind Montez Sweat entering training camp.

Now that the NFL draft is over the Chicago Bears are focused on stacking their own roster for training camp. So, it is a good time to go through the depth charts at each position and see where the Bears stand. What does their edge rusher depth chart look like?

Montez Sweat

Sweat has been a solid contributor, but the question every year is how much better would he be with more help.

Dayo Odeyingbo

Odeyingbo is coming back from a season-ending Achilles injury. That is a big recovery process, but the team appears to be overly optimistic about his progress. That is the only thing that can explain the lack of help around him.

Austin Booker

Booker stepped up last season due to the injuries around him. He is still not strong against the run, and playing so much limited his pass rush juice, but he showed that he belongs in the NFL. Now, the team hopes to keep him in more of a designated pass rusher role.

Shemar Turner

Turner is entering his second season. He is changing his role to play more along the edge full-time, and he is coming off a season-ending injury that he suffered last October. If Turner is healthy to start the year, he still has a lot to prove to show he belongs. The Bears need him, though.

Daniel Hardy

Hardy has played well in the preseason and has found his way onto the roster for the past two years. However, he has zero sacks over that time, and his play might speak more to how thin the Bears are than to him being good enough to earn his role.

Jonathan Garvin

Garvin has been in the NFL since 2020, but has not performed in an NFL game since 2022. He has been around and has the experience needed, but the hope is that he does not need to make the roster.

Jamree Kromah

Kromah was a UDFA with the Bears back in 2024 and has mostly stayed on their practice squad despite a brief stint with New England in 2024. He is back to compete for a back end of the roster spot.

Jeremiah Martin

Martin has bounced around the NFL after being a UDFA in 2023. He signed with the Bears practice squad late last season and stuck around to be added depth, but he does not have a strong chance of making the roster.
