Bears Get Major Montez Sweat Injury Update on Thursday
By Cem Yolbulan
After losing three straight games to fall to 4-5 for the season, the Chicago Bears are getting ready for the biggest game of their season so far. On Sunday, they host the Green Bay Packers with the hopes of ending their ten-game losing streak to their bitter rivals.
In order to slow down the dynamic Packers offense, the Bears will need their full complement of starters. Fortunately for them, they received excellent injury news on one of their best players on that end of the floor. The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain reported that defensive end Montez Sweat was returning to practice, per defensive coordinator Eric Washington.
Bears News: DE Montez Sweat Returns to Practice on Thursday
Sweat had missed Wednesday's practice with an ankle issue. The talented pass rusher was already playing through a shin injury, so this additional ailment caused some concern among the fanbase.
However, the fact that he is able to return to practice on Thursday is a great sign for his availability against the Packers.
The Pro Bowl defender already missed a game for the Bears this season. In Week 9 against the Cardinals, he had to sit out with his shin injury, and the defense gave up the most points they allowed all season.
Ever since the Bears acquired Sweat in a mid-season trade during the 2023 campaign, he has been a crucial part of the defense. In 17 games as a Bear, he has 9.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and 21 QB hits. Having him back will significantly increase Chicago's chances of pulling off the upset.
