The Chicago Bears made a clear statement over the last two games taking down the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks in back-to-back weeks. Last year's conference winners are still very much considered contenders, and for the Bears to go in and never trail shows just how much of a unit this roster has become.
Since the return of Caleb Williams the Bears have only been tied or leading in any game. Never has Chicago trailed and this has come against teams that were expected to be playoff contenders.
The one exception to this is the Atlanta Falcons, a roster that appeared to be NFC South favorites for a short time before suffering regression. Regardless, the point remains that the past two weeks the Bears have sent an undeniable message, one that has led many pundits to conclude they are the top contenders in the NFC.
While the record may not be as spotless as Minnesota or San Francisco, the Bears remained competitive while Caleb Williams was on the shelf for an extended period of time. This speaks to the strong coaching staff and the leadership of Ben Johnson as well as an incredibly talented roster. One that made an even stronger push with the recent addition of Jeffrey Simmons.
No question, the Bears are firmly in the Super Bowl conversation and deserve every bit of the respect they are being given. Those holding out doubt can no longer point to any one weakness after Chicago has shown the many different ways it can win as well as the wins against clear contenders in back-to-back weeks.

Perhaps the only downside of this accomplishment is the attention it has brought and the promise of having the full focus of the rest of the division. Chicago can expect each opposing team's best shot no matter the talent level as the manner of coverage over the Bears has given earned respect, but attention that makes the franchise a clear target as well.
It will be interesting to watch how Johnson navigates this after already debunking early-season doubts that the franchise would regress. Chicago has dealt with both extreme already early in this 2026 season and has shown zero signs of letting either type of attention phase their approach and ability to be ready each and every week.
With that said, there is no doubt the Bears are now a clear Super Bowl favorite and a team that is going to have to be reckoned with deep into January.
