Bears Latest Signing Spells Bad News For Injured RB
The Chicago Bears announced the signing of running back Demetric Felton to their practice squad yesterday, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
NFL News: Bears Sign RB Demetric Felton
This signing comes in light of the injury that Roschon Johnson suffered in last Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day loss to Detroit. The current ruling on the Bear’s fourth-round pick in 2023 is a concussion, with his timetable to return to action being unknown. The signing of Felton doesn't make it look likely that Johnson will be ready to go against San Francisco this weekend.
Felton has not logged a regular-season snap since the 2022 campaign when he was a member of the Cleveland Browns. The UCLA product played eight games with the Browns in 2022, and 16 in 2021. Formerly a wide receiver, Felton switched to taking handoffs a couple of years ago and has been bouncing around practice squads ever since.
This is the 26-year-old’s second stint with the Bears this season, as he initially inked onto the practice squad in late July.
Many believe the front office elected to hang onto Khalil Herbert for as long as they did because of any injuries that Johnson or D’Andre Swift might have sustained. When it came time to move Herbert to Cincinnati, management knew the precautions that came with trading their key running back insurance policy.
Felton joins Darrynton Evans on the practice squad as extra depth at the position, with special teams veteran Travis Homer looking to get more carries if Johnson misses any time.
