In recent weeks, injuries have been stacking up for the Bears division rival, the Detroit Lions. This past Sunday, the Lions sustained three more significant injuries, losing defensive tackle Alim McNeill( torn ACL), cornerback Carlton Davis( broken jaw), and running back David Montgomery ( MCL).

While Dan Campbell expressed he wasn't optimistic about McNeill and Davis in his post-game press conference on Sunday, he said nothing about Montgomery. Thus, everyone was shocked when Adam Schefter reported Montgomery's injury Monday morning.

Bears News: Lions running back David Montgomery to miss time with an MCL injury

The news of Montgomery's injury is beneficial to know, even heading into their Monday night showdown with the Minnesota Vikings. Even though looking ahead to the next opponent before playing the current one is never a good strategy, knowing one of the best players on the upcoming opponent is going to be out is important.

This season, Montgomery has recorded 775 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 185 attempts. During these two teams meeting on Thanksgiving, Montgomery rushed for 88 yards on 21 attempts. Although he didn't surpass 100 rushing yards in that game, the duo of Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs gave fits to a bad Bears run defense.

Only having to stop Gibbs in Week 16 could make it slightly easier for the Bears to stop the run. This results from Gibbs being more speed than power, so the run defense may not get worn down as much.

Even though the Lions are a division rival, watching all their injuries pile up is rough to see, especially when it's to a former Bear like Montgomery. Nevertheless, maybe the Bears have a chance to steal a division game with the news of Montgomery's injury.
