Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has wasted no time filling out his coaching staff before the 2025 season. Johnson’s biggest hires were at offensive and defensive coordinator, bringing Declan Doyle and Dennis Allen to the Windy City.

Doyle and Allen will have a significant impact on the Bears’ performance in 2025. However, it will be up to the position coaches to help elevate these players’ game.

On Monday, Chicago reportedly addressed the offensive line by hiring Dan Rouschar, who has extensive coaching experience. The Bears didn’t stop with the Rouschar hire. They’ve found their next defensive line coach, who has ties to Cleveland Browns superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, Chicago is expected to hire Jeremy Garrett as their next defensive line coach. Garrett was the defensive line coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars this season.

The former Ole Miss defensive lineman has collegiate coaching experience with stints at Liberty and Auburn. Garrett got his NFL coaching career off the ground with the Cleveland Browns, where he was the assistant defensive line coach in 2020.

Chicago is in desperate need of another pass rusher opposite of Montez Sweat. Sweat led the team with 5.5 sacks, but that’s enough when you play in the NFC North.

Therefore, Chicago’s addition of a coach who has worked with Garrett in the past makes the idea of trading for the superstar not impossible. On Monday, Garrett requested a trade out of Cleveland, which sent the NFL world into a frenzy.

Could you imagine Garrett lining up opposite Sweat? That would be a nice 1-2 combo on the Bears’ defensive line. However, the Bears would have to beat out the numerous teams that will also put their hat into the ring.

Nonetheless, the Bears can’t focus on trading for Garrett. They have to do their best to upgrade the defensive line and hopefully, Jeremy Garrett can get more out of this position group in 2025.
