The Chicago Bears are looking toward next year after a failed 2024 season, but the future is bright after hiring Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as the new head coach.

Caleb Williams was under constant duress yet still managed to have an impressive rookie campaign. This organization is tied to him, so it's determined to ensure he has the best environment possible with which to succeed.

One of the best ways to support your franchise quarterback is to give him an elite defense. Luckily, former Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns on Monday, leaving a path for the Bears to land a generational star in the coming months.

Perhaps general manager Ryan Poles won't pull the trigger, though this projected trade would immediately put Chicago in contention for the NFC North.

Bears Land Superstar Myles Garrett in Projected Trade

This projected trade sees the Bears acquiring Myles Garrett and a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a first and fourth-round selection in 2026, the second-round pick from the Carolina Panthers in 2025, and RB Roschon Johnson.

It's a big haul, but one that's worth it from Chicago's perspective given how dominant Garrett is. He's a six-time All-Pro despite playing just eight years in the NFL and would immediately transform the defense, giving Montez Sweat an elite partner along the defensive line.

While Garrett would typically demand a larger haul, his trade request diminishes the Browns' leverage. Rival general managers believe he could be had for just a first-round selection and some extra compensation, allowing Poles the opportunity to swoop in.

Johnson is an interesting trade piece to dangle. He scored six TDs with only 55 carries this year, and Cleveland may decide to move on from Nick Chubb. Should that happen, they'll need a complement to Jerome Ford who can handle a bulk of the load. Johnson certainly can, and he has enough promise that he could be the cherry on top to push this deal across the finish line.

Regardless, the Bears need to be active on the trade market. The chance to acquire someone like Garrett doesn't come often and Poles needs to take advantage of it.
