The Chicago Bears have a clear question mark when it comes to the defensive interior and how the unit will shake out long-term. Grady Jarrett was supposed to be a reliable answer, but is coming off the worst season of his career and clearly cannot be relied on to consistently play at a high level. With this in mind, the Bears cannot help but pay attention to the recent drama around Jalen Carter's future with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Due to character concerns, it seems that the Eagles are hesitating on a possible extension. This isn't exactly breaking news with Carter having this questioned heading into the draft process and dealing with clear questions throughout his career. However, there is also no denying the star lineman is among the league's most dominating defensive options at any position.

Chicago, having a chance to add a player of this value, cannot be overlooked. It is important to note that Philadelphia is expected to be an NFC contender in the season ahead and is unlikely to trade Carter just yet. However, this headline makes it clear that the lineman could be on the move in the future.

It hands Chicago a situation to monitor, understanding the potential value in having such an elite option anchoring the middle of the Bears' defense. While drafting depth at the position remains the more likely path, Carter is far too talented not to keep a close eye on.

Bears Should Monitor Possibility of Adding Jalen Carter in Future Seasons

For Carter, there is clear motivation to join the Bears roster if the star were to ever hit the market. Chicago has Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson, a duo that is consistently going to take pressure off the defense and appears to be cementing themselves as clear NFC contenders for years to come. With this level of excitement and expectation, there is a clear reason for Carter to consider the Bears as a potential destination if things blow up in Philly.

Looking from Philadelphia's perspective, it becomes obvious why the franchise could choose the Bears, with it being a target outside their division and one that could offer a number of potential packages if a trade were forced.

No matter how things play out, it is clear that Carter is going to have the attention of a number of teams. Chicago must be among them, understanding the uncertainty around the current defensive line and the ceiling that Carter would offer a unit clearly lacking the presence of an established star.
