For more than a decade, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers tormented the Chicago Bears. His rise came during some dark years in the Windy City, and he often outclassed the Bears twice a year.
It got so bad that Rodgers even claimed ownership of the organization. The worst part about it is that there was no objective way to push back, as the numbers and the record proved he did, in fact, own the Bears.
That's why diehard Bears fans may never admit it, but Caleb Williams is right about No. 12. In his recent appearance on "Hot Ones," the former No. 1 pick called Aaron Rodgers "a magician with the football," and sadly, that was true for a long time.
The Bears are finally back on top
Rodgers left the Green Bay Packers with a 25-5 record vs. the Bears, including 1-0 in the playoffs. He passed for 6,965 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions with a 109.0 passer rating in those 29 matchups.
After years of struggle, the Bears are finally a team on the rise. In fact, one could argue that the Packers are trending in an opposite direction, as they don't have that much young talent and could blow it up if they don't get it done with Jordan Love.
Ben Johnson's team, on the other hand, has one of the most electric playmakers in the game taking snaps under center, not to mention playmakers like Luther Burden III, Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland, D'Andre Swift, Kyle Monangai, and even Zavion Thomas. The defense is still a work in progress, but this team has a clear vision and is on the rise.
For way too long, the Bears knew they were in for a beating every single time they faced off with their most hated divisional rivals. That's why watching Ben Johnson show just how much he despises them and everything they stand for has been such a breath of fresh air for this organization.
As for Caleb Williams, he has all the respect in the world for one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, and you can see some of Rodgers in his game with some of his big throws and arm talent. But he can be much more than Rodgers.
Thus far, he's logged a 3-2 record against the Packers, including a 1-0 record in the postseason. He's passed for 1,176 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions in those five matchups, also pulling off some huge screamers in that NFC Divisional Round win.
For now, Rodgers holds bragging and ownership rights over the Bears, and even the most avid fan has to admit it. But with Williams at the helm, it won't be long before the tables finally turn. It's already happening.
