Bears fans shouldn't panic if DJ Moore explodes with Josh Allen

Josh Allen could unlock the best statistical season of Moore’s career, but it still would not change why Chicago moved on.

Unquestionably, the biggest move of the Chicago Bears' 2026 offseason was opting to trade DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. The deal made sense after Moore's production dipped, and the contract simply no longer fit the production of the star receiver. Add in the fact that both Rome Odunze and Luther Burden are expected to take a leap, and there simply wasn't a reason to believe it was in Chicago's best interest to continue to pay Moore.

Another piece of this is the talent at tight end, with Colston Loveland expected to make a year two leap. The Bears have plenty of pass-catching talent at the top of the depth chart, setting up Moore's exit and what should be a productive year for the receiver. This is where it is important to remember that no matter what production lies ahead for the receiver, the Bears made the right decision.

Chicago fans could find it easy to judge the move in retrospect when Josh Allen is force-feeding Moore and the duo is putting up eye-popping numbers. However, this is again where it is important to note the changed situation with Buffalo lacking the talent and pass-catching depth that the Bears currently roster.

There is also the fact that there was limited chemistry with Caleb Williams, who showed a tendency to lean on younger targets in big spots. All of this made it clear that the veteran receiver needed to be dealt and the Bears made the correct decision turning the page.

Bears Made the Right Decision Trading DJ Moore No Matter 2026 Production

Buffalo is set to give Moore the most targets the receiver has seen in some time, with the pass catcher clearly the lone star target for the Bills. This is where context is incredibly important, and Chicago fans should prepare themselves to see Moore putting up huge numbers with one of the league's elite quarterbacks.

This doesn't change the fact that the trade was the right decision, but simply speaks to a pass catcher landing in the right situation with an incredibly talented option in Allen. We've seen in years past the quarterback elevate average talents in Gabe Davis and Mack Hollins. There is an argument to be made that Moore is the best receiver the quarterback has played with in his impressive career.

With this in mind, Chicago fans need to understand that big numbers are likely coming for Moore, and they don't change the reasons why a trade was needed. For Moore, it is a great opportunity and clearly a better fit as the Bears moved in a different direction. Fans simply shouldn't overreact, no matter the year that lies ahead for a player who needed a new landing spot and a fit more capable of getting the best out of the star pass catcher.
