The Chicago Bears fanbase feared their season was over this past Sunday when Caleb Williams went down and would take a cart off the field. Waving to the crowd and the obvious level of emotion quickly put on the table the idea that this was a season-ending injury that would kill any hopes of a Super Bowl run. While Tyson Bagent is talented and could prove to be a talented starter, there is no question that the ceiling is far different in comparison to the still unknown ability of Williams.
Fans have been able to breathe a bit easier knowing that if Williams misses any time it is going to be very limited. Youth is clearly working in Chicago's favor here with the quarterback already walking around the locker room and appearing to be on the mend after Sunday's game.
It will be interesting to watch how Ben Johnson chooses to navigate the next week as the franchise prepares for the Philadelphia Eagles. It is a hostile defense, but you do have the advantage of playing at home, giving a clear decision for Johnson to make, as well as for the training staff. Even if it means dropping to 1-2, protecting Williams and having him as close to fully healthy as possible is a wise path forward understanding the potential of the roster.
Considering how the Eagles have played in the first two games, it is also very much on the table that Johnson could get enough out of Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum to contend. No question, Chicago's seaosn remains in a great spot only hours after it appeared to be potentially over.
Bears fans can take a breath after Caleb Williams injury scare left 2026 season hanging in the balance
Williams having such a loud reaction to the injury told you how painful it was and where the quarterback's head was when it happened. This along with the instant air being let out of the team made it clear there was a possibility of it giving Chicago zero hope of completing what appeared to be a possible Super Bowl run.
No question, Chicago has been through extreme highs and lows in only two weeks of the regular season. Things are clearly getting ready to stabilize with last week's loss being an outlier in many ways and the quarterback getting ready to make his return.
The Bears still have all but one of their six NFC North matchups ahead of them leaving every reason to believe even if Williams misses a week or two the franchise can make the needed run and go back to the being the expected division champs.
