After putting up the most points the league has seen in a Week 1 performance the Chicago Bears were able to sit back and enjoy watching their hated rival dismantle themselves yet again. Green Bay was facing a Minnesota squad forced to turn to backup quarterback Carson Wentz and still the Packers gave up 22 fourth quarter points in what was a collapse that seemed excitingly familiar to Chicago fans. It looked very similar to what happened the last time the two rivals faced off in the first round of the playoffs.
The Packers jumped out to a commanding lead and held control for three quarters before Chicago landed a shot and a stunned Green Bay coaching staff and roster was never able to get off the mat. Yet again against a lesser Vikings roster this was the case as rival head coach Matt LaFleur and quarterback Jordan Love put up great numbers for three quarters only to watch the game completely implode.
It has become an undeniable theme for the Packers dating back to last season when injuries were blamed for the team being unable to finish games. Now, it seems that it has become a clear piece of their identity with no lead feeling safe even against a roster forced to turn to its backup quarterback.
Chicago fans might be quick to point out as well that the Packers set up their own demise by taking a dirty show on Kyler Murray. Murray was completely lost in this game and Wentz stepped in as a clear upgrade clearly catching Green Bay off guard and putting together an impressive afternoon.
Bears fans cannot help but enjoy watching Green Bay continuing to collapse late in games
Watching Green Bay completely get demolished in the final quarter of the game served as a reminder as to how fragile leads are for the Packers. Being unable to execute the simplistic against a team expected to be stuck in the basement of the NFC North served as a reminder as to why Bears fans are expecting to rule the division and tilt a rivalry in their favor that has been a source of frustration for far too long.
It will be interesting to watch how both matchups against Chicago go in the 2026 season and if this is a theme that could author an early demise to the year ahead. Green Bay not even being in conention for a wildcard spot in the season ahead would be an undeniably exciting development for the Bears and leave the Detroit Lions as the lone obvious threat in the division.
Watching Week 1, it is very plausible that this becomes a reality and the Packers are going to be unable to get off the mat from the collapse they suffered a season ago. No question, Bears fans will be keeping a close eye hoping this is the case and that the hated rival can be counted out early in 2026 allowing Chicago to cement themselves as the class of the North.
