The Chicago Bears are in disarray after dropping their third-straight game last week to the New England Patriots. Once upon a time, the Bears were 4-2 heading into their Week 7 bye.

However, things haven’t gone right for the Bears since the bye. They’ve struggled to score points and have breakdowns on defense. These issues have led to player-held meetings and calls for changes in the coaching staff.

On Tuesday, Chicago fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Head coach Matt Eberflus decided to part ways with Waldron in a statement released by the team. But the players in the locker room also wanted a change.

According to Marc ‘Silvy’ Silverman of the Silvy and Waddle Show on ESPN 1000, players went to Eberflus and GM Ryan Poles asking them to make a change at offensive coordinator. Silvy also said a few veteran players requested backup QB Tyson Bagent to start.

The first part of Silvy’s report doesn’t come as a surprise, but hearing that some players want the backup QB to start is never a good sign. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has had an inconsistent start to his NFL career.

However, part of that could be put on coaching and the offensive line, which was in shambles in Week 10 against the New England Patriots. The idea of benching Williams for Bagent would be a bad look for the franchise, given that he was supposed to be the answer at QB.

Williams’ completion percentage has been horrendous over the past three games (50.5%), but he’s been sacked 18 times. It’s hard to say Bagent would be better behind this struggling o-line.

Nonetheless, Williams and the Bears’ offense will get a shot to fix itself on Sunday against an opportunistic Packers defense.
