The Chicago Bears' defensive line has been the talk of the offseason. The team added a lot of depth pieces along the interior, and they did not touch the edge room during free agency or the draft. With the group already being a question entering the offseason, it left many wondering if this would be the flaw to hold the team back in 2026.
Gervon Dexter not worried about Chicago Bears Defensive Line
Bears defensive tackle Gervon Dexter says that he hears the noise that is surrounding him and his teammates, but he feels they have what it takes to lead the team.

“We hear it. But I feel we got the guys.”
It is good for Dexter to do the talking because he is the one who needs to prove himself the most. Dexter is entering his fourth NFL season, which is the last one on his rookie deal. The team has yet to extend him, and they are mulling it over. Dexter has flashed potential that should make it a no-brainer, but at the same time, he has not hit enough peaks to make an extension obvious.
Dexter went from 2.5 sacks in a rotational role in 2023 to five sacks as a full-time starter in 2024. The thought was that he would get even better in 2025, but his play plateaued for the most part. He produced six sacks, but had four at the halfway point. It appears that Dexter will start off hot and then taper down as the year goes on.
If Dexter can lead the group, the depth is not a huge concern. However, if Dexter is not an impact player, the rest of the room goes under the microscope.
The team has Grady Jarrett, but he is getting older and is coming off two straight disappointing years. They signed Neville Gallimore, James Lynch, and Kentavius Street in free agency. That gives them depth, but none of the names are trusted assets who can consistently rotate in. Then, there is Jordan van den Berg, who can compete as well. However, he was a round six pick in a draft that lacked depth.
Dexter knows they have a lot of depth, and there is a belief that a few of these players can step into roles. However, having a lot of role players is not the same as having a legitimate group in the NFL. This could still end up being a weakness for the team. It will mostly come down to Dexter and what ceiling he can hit.
