One position group that Chicago Bears fans have continually questioned in the 2026 offseason has been a receiver room that lost DJ Moore and depth receivers Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay. Chicago is clearly betting on a leap forward from Luther Burden and Rome Odunze while hoping to continue to get great production from the team's rushing duo. Still, fans are yet to see this come to fruition and will grab onto any reason to believe that the group is capable of getting the job done.
With this in mind, it is noteworthy that corner Tyrique Stevenson offered a quote that embraces this sentiment. With the comment coming via Mark Carman, with Stevenson offering that "as a group, this is the toughest has faced." The defender also noted that Moore gave him an incredibly hard time as a rookie and was careful to give credit to the veteran receiver.
This is high praise and includes not only the aforementioned star receivers but free agent signing Kalif Raymond and Scotty Miller, and standout rookie Zavion Thomas. It is unquestionably a group with a high ceiling but one that is unproven making Stevenson's comment reassuring that Chicago's trust in its current options is warranted.
Bears Defender Makes Eye-Popping Statement on Chicago's Receiver Room
Stevenson has been in the league since 2023, so it is important to note that this statement doesn't include all that much experience. However, it does include last year's playoff group and is hopefully indicative of young players taking a leap as well as the Bears pressing the right buttons when it comes to finding viable replacements.
Chicago still should keep an open mind when it comes to adding to the position, but this does offer a level of comfort with Stevenson having a far better idea of the talent rostered than fans or pundits. Making such a statement is telling of why the Bears appear so confident in a group that has invited questions due to offseason losses.
For the Bears, the only remaining concern is if Burden or Odunze were to suffer an injury is the current depth capable of giving the franchise a consistent chance of having a balanced attack. It is a question that is still reasonable to ask even after Stevenson's praise and suggests that another addition is still possible. It is possible, but doesn't feel as dire as it did heading into OTAs pointing to the progress shown.
