There has been a lot of debate over the last weekend as to whether or not the Chicago Bears have the needed depth to replace Cole Kmet and remain among the NFC's top contenders. The Bears have a wealth of playmakers with Colston Loveland, Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and D'Andre Swift, all elite weapons within the offense of Ben Johnson. However, there is no denying that the franchise could benefit from an additional option at tight end to continue to have elite depth.

Rookie Sam Roush is expected to fill this role in the future, but hasn't appeared ready to take a meaningful leap. With this in mind, the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Goedert should be a point of conversation for the Bears. While Goedert isn't going to be an option beyond this season for the Bears, the tight end is on an expiring deal and has experience winning at the highest level.

If there is one critique of the current pass catching options, it's youth that hasn't been forced to deliver in the biggest moments. Having Goedert both as a safety blanket for Williams and as a clear fallback option if Loveland were to miss any time is a luxury the Bears should explore adding over the next weeks.

Philadelphia seems incredibly likely to trade away expiring deals after losing Jalen Hurts for the rest of the 2026 season. It is difficult to argue that the season isn't lost, even in a division that has a place in any debate when it comes to the weakest group of four teams. Regardless, the point remains that Goedert is going to be a compelling trade chip for the Eagles and could find a surprise home in Ben Johnson's offense.

Bears could find surprise answer to losing Cole Kmet in current Philadelphia Eagles veteran Dallas Goedert

Goedert has two touchdowns so far this season, and 180 receiving yards in what has been a very limited Philadelphia offense. It would be extremely fitting for the tight end to step into Kmet's role as an upgrade and piece more than capable of coming up big in moments when Williams needs a surprise target to emerge.

There is all the upside of an established veteran without any of the pressure of force feeding a new target the football. Goedert can be a stabilizing force both on the field and help prepare Chicago's young pass catchers to make an expected deep January run.

No question, the fit makes sense for both sides and should at least be explored. The Bears would be wise to consider adding a bit of depth at the position whether it is Goedert or a quieter move understanding they are one injury away from having a real problem after the loss of Kmet.
