Bears Coach Needs to Lose His Job After Latest Blunder Cost Team in Week 8
By Joe Summers
The Bears were stunned with one of the most embarrassing plays in recent memory, getting shellshocked by Jayden Daniels and the Commenders in Week 8.
Daniels completed a miracle Hail Mary on the final play, handing Chicago an unacceptable loss against one of the NFL's worst defenses. Caleb Williams and the offense struggled, though most fans realize Shane Waldron's elementary offense is the biggest hurdle to success.
Few believe the Bears' coaching staff sets Williams up to succeed. Sunday's loss proved those concerns are justified.
Bears Must Finally Fire OC Shane Waldron
While the team eventually gained the lead, Waldron's deicison to hand the ball off to an offensive lineman on the one-yard late in the game says it all. The offense finally reached scoring position but was undermined by its own coaches' incompetence.
There's no reason for Waldon to remain with the team. He's routinely proven incapable of simple adjustments and his offensive design is best fit on a YMCA sixth-grade intramural squad. Williams deserves better, especially considering the skill-position talent on the roster.
This loss is a brutal pill to swallow. Williams finished with just 131 yards while completing a paltry 10-of-26 passes. That's not what fans signed up for and the Commanders' defense has done little to suggest it could contain Williams like it did.
Two people deserve blame: Waldron and head coach Matt Eberflus. Both are barriers to success and until Ryan Poles cleans out, Williams may never reach his true potential. One doesn't have to search far to see examples of high-level coaching with the Vikings' Kevin O'Connell and the Lions' Ben Johnson.
The Bears will remain behind the curve until Eberflus and Waldron are fired. For now, Waldron needs to start packing his bags if the organization is serious about true contention.
