The Chicago Bears' pass rush is in clear need of help. Despite paying Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo a combined $146 million, they've logged just six sacks in their first five games of the season, leaving the Bears to potentially explore outside options before the Nov. 4 trade deadline.
That's why the Bears need to make the most of the New Orleans Saints' upcoming trip to the Windy City. The visitors have only won one game this season and are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline, leaving the door open for general manager Ryan Poles should swoop right in to make sure veteran pass rusher Cameron Jordan doesn't even leave town.
Bears Must Trade for Saints DE Cameron Jordan After Week 7
The Saints will most likely field calls for stars like running back Alvin Kamara and wideout Chris Olave, as well as Jordan, in the coming days. The experience disruptor is one of the greatest players in franchise history, and he's spent his entire career in the Big Easy. However, at 36 years old, he's going to be a free agent at the end of the season, so the Saints might as well get something in return for his services.
Jordan is a three-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro-Bowler. He's the team's all-time leader in sacks (124.0), and he's up to 2.5 sacks and 13 solo tackles this season, while his 82.5 Pro Football Focus pass rush grade ranks fourth-best among 174 graded exterior defenders.
Also, Jordan is more than familiar with Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who was his defensive coordinator for years before being his head coach.
On paper, the Bears' pass rushing unit should be much more dominant than it's been so far this season, and with a reinforcement of Jordan's caliber, everybody around him should have more freedom to get to the quarterback. Of course, Jordan wouldn't be a long-term solution by any means, but that would also make him a cheap reinforcement.
Perhaps a fifth-round selection would be more than enough to lure the future Hall of Famer to head coach Ben Johnson's team.
As things stand now, the Bears are 5.5-point favorites ahead of this game, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Kellen Moore's team has some playmakers on offense, though, and quarterback Spencer Rattler has looked better than expected, so the Bears can't afford to overlook him.
But, with a three-game winning streak and an advantage in almost every aspect of the game, Chicago should be more than capable of handing New Orleans its sixth loss of the season.
Multiple teams will be lurking around to try and make the most of the Saints' impending panic sale. With that in mind, the Bears just can't take any chances, and they have to get Jordan before the trade deadline inches closer.
