The Chicago Bears had a brilliant campaign in 2025 under Ben Johnson. The future is bright in the Windy City, but this offseason, they have watched their rivals lose multiple coaches. And more problems were found with the Minnesota Vikings.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that Minnesota was firing GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. And instead of hiring another GM now, they are kicking the can down the road and will let executive Rob Brzezinski lead football operations through the NFL Draft.

But for a Vikings team that had its regular season end on Jan. 4, the decision to wait this long to make a move is confusing, yet it is great news for a Bears team that is building for the future.

Bears Have to Be Grinning as Vikings Fired GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah

The Bears will head into the 2026 season as the defending NFC North champs, and it's always great to see your rivals make some laughable moves. This wasn't initially Minnesota's plan, as Adofo-Mensah was down in Mobile, Alabama, for the Senior Bowl, watching OL/DL drills on Jan. 27.

Just a couple of days later, though, he no longer has a job. In addition, Vikings reporter Alec Lewis of The Athletic wrote, "This was not at all expected to happen at this point in the calendar. Many are blindsided. There had certainly been a lot of tension in recent weeks and months, and a lot of murkiness within decision-making process."

And it didn't need to be said that this process has some holes. Why would they wait four weeks after their season ended to make this choice? To make matters worse, they are letting Brzezinski run this team, but aren't locked in to making him the next GM.

If they decide to make another move at GM down the line, it'll mess up the timelines for Kevin O'Connell, the potential next GM, and the players they bring in.

But that would work in Chicago's favor that much more. Russini also pointed out that Minnesota's misses in the draft, the team failing to sign Daniel Jones, and opting against signing Aaron Rodgers, who showed interest in playing on a "below-market" deal, played roles in his firing.

And you can't forget that they let Sam Darnold walk out of the building to sign with the Seattle Seahawks, who are playing in next week's Super Bowl. Instead, they decided to roll with J.J. McCarthy. He missed his rookie season with a knee injury before playing in just 10 games in 2025 after missing seven games due to several injuries.

In those outings, he had completed 57 percent of his throws for 1,632 passing yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Across two games versus Chicago, he went 29-of-52 (55 percent) for 293 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.

The Vikings have a big question to answer at QB, entered the offseason with $-39 million in cap space per Spotrac, and now fired their GM. There are real problems over in Minnesota, and that is music to the ears of Bears fans.
