The Chicago Bears accomplished the first part of a two week challenge in their attempt to beat the defending AFC and NFC champions back-to-back weeks. After hosting the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football the Bears are going to have a clear advantage over Seattle. Not only will the Bears be on extra rest, but they will have the advantage of the Seattle Seahawks coming off a physical matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The result of the game doesn't matter when you consider the toll that it takes playing a great KC roster. Add in the fact that it was Sunday Night Football and the Bears have both the rest advantage and are coming off a far better spot on the schedule. Playing Seattle on Monday night is such an undeniable advantage and gives Ben Johnson so much time to cook up an attack specific to the Seattle defense.
You're dealing with four extra days of time for Johnson to get in his bag and have a unique approach to a defense that already hasn't come close to last year's unit. It is hard to believe that the Bears offense isn't going to explode and allow Caleb Williams to complete what would be an undeniable two-week statement.
Beating the defending conference champions is a clear announcement that Chicago is among the league's top contenders. Doing so while at a clear advantage isn't going to be nearly as notable as the result. With this in mind, it will be interesting to watch how Chicago comes out of the gate next week having such a benefit of time.
Bears have an undeniable schedule advantage as franchise looks to complete statement wins
Part of understanding what an advantage this truly is for Chicago is the respect that Johnson garners. The head coach is clearly among the league's top offensive minds and demands respect far outside of Chicago. The Bears are quickly becoming a team that those outside the NFC North love to watch appreciating the creativity and understanding the elite offensive system of Johnson.
This system is elite on regular rest, having time to prepare for Seattle and figure out how to perfectly attack a defense dealing with far less rest is a perfect storm. It allows the Bears to continue to build a win streak and get hot on the heels of Caleb Williams returning to the lineup.
Williams is the driving force of an offense with a needed chance to get completely healthy and to throw its best punch in next week's showdown. One that would leave Chicago with an undeniable case as the NFC's premier contender.
