The Chicago Bears have often been bullied in the NFC North race, dating back to the days of Aaron Rodgers or the Minnesota Vikings being a capable contender. Since joining the division, the franchise has won 11 North titles, with the Vikings leading the way with 21 and Green Bay coming in second with 17. For Chicago, this has been a recent trend as well, with last year's title being the first time the Bears had won the North since the 2018 season.
Previously, 2010 was the last time the franchise had won, with an eight-year gap between division titles and a seven-year gap between the latest wins. While Chicago remains a historic franchise, there is no debating that recent years haven't been kind to the Bears when it comes to division rivalries. It appears that this is set to change with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams clearly setting the franchise up for a historic run.
Looking at the offensive talent, the Bears boast an incredibly young offensive core with no reason to believe it will be shaken up anytime soon. Add in the aggressive ownership mentality when it comes to spending, and there is no question that Chicago appears poised to perhaps go on a run of their own.
Bears Clearly Setting Themselves up for Years of NFC North Dominance
It is fun to imagine the tables turning after watching Green Bay enjoy a long window of playoff contention and Detroit's short window of domination, leading to the hiring of Ben Johnson. The Bears have a clear chance to turn the tables and shake up a division that is looking at the Bears as the current leader of the pack.
There simply is no denying the fact that, based on the offseason and last season's accomplishments, Chicago is once again the divisional favorites. It could be the second in a long string of North wins as the franchise has a treasure trove of offensive talent and a head coach that appears to be pushing all of the right buttons when it comes to play calling and developing his players.
Bears fans are deserving of such a stretch, long removed from years of consistency despite being one of the league's more accomplished franchises. Williams has reintroduced these expectations, and even in the years when Chicago comes up short of winning the conference should give Bears fans the bragging rights of division dominance. Something that fans are growing to expect as the season draws closer and rivals appear to be heading in the wrong direction.
