Bears Address Their Offensive Line Needs in Latest Projected Trade for Pro Bowler
By Cem Yolbulan
As the November 5 trade deadline is fast approaching, one of the worst-kept secrets for the Chicago Bears is their desperate need to upgrade their offensive line. The Bears had already demoted veteran offensive lineman Nate Davis and are reportedly willing to move on from him even if they have to eat some of his salary.
Matt Pryor, who replaced Davis at right guard, has performed admirably. Yet, that likely hasn't stopped the Bears from scouring the market for more depth and quality.
One of the names that has been linked to the Bears is Wyatt Teller of the Cleveland Browns. One mock trade proposal that makes sense for both sides is Teller, along with a sixth-round pick, heading to Chicago in exchange for a third-round pick.
Teller has made three straight Pro Bowls for Cleveland after signing a four-year, $56.8 million contract extension in 2021. He has a $22 million cap hit for next season and considering how financially strapped the Browns are, they should presumably be open to moving him.
Plus, the Browns are 2-6 and aren't going anywhere this season. They already gave up on the season once they traded Amari Cooper away. Getting a third-round pick for a 29-year-old offensive lineman is a smart move for them.
Even though Teller is statistically having a down season, he has consistently been one of the best guards in the league. He would immediately take over the starting right guard position and give Caleb Williams the elite protection he needs to take this Bears offense to the next level.
