Another Bears Player's Dad Demands Caleb Williams Loses His Job
It's been an eventful week for the Chicago Bears. On Tuesday, they fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron after three consecutive weeks of inadequate offense.
Immediately following Waldron's firing Marc Silverman of ESPN 1000's Waddle and Silvy reported that some veterans went to head Coach Matt Eberflus and asked for backup Tyson Bagent to start instead of Caleb Williams.
That piece of news got the whole sports world talking about how dysfunctional Chicago is again. It's speculated the reason some veterans could have been asking for this move to be made is so Williams could reset.
In the past three weeks, Williams has been sacked 18 times. These sacks have come against bad defensive fronts because Williams isn't pulling the trigger. The supposed veterans suggesting that Williams be sat could want to protect him from taking more hits while learning from the sidelines.
Despite that potential thinking, benching Williams could destroy his confidence and ruin his development. That is why national media talked about how bad of an idea benching Williams is.
On Thursday, this report took an interesting turn thanks to a post on Reddit. According to the poster, Travis Bagent talked with Silvy the day before it was reported that veterans were asking to start Bagent.
Bears News: Travis Bagent Supposedly Started Rumor About Players Wanting His Son to Play
If this rumor did, in fact, originate from Travis, it raises concerns. While it’s natural for Travis to support his son, spreading misinformation is hardly the path to seeing Tyson in the starting role.
Tyson Bagent has proven to be a capable backup quarterback in his time with the Bears. But as a starter, he's a big question mark. While Williams is in the same boat, he possesses a lot more upside than Bagent, which is why the Bears drafted him.
Travis Bagent is not the only father of a Bears player who is agitated. Earlier this season, Rome Odunze's dad, James, tweeted videos of Rome being wide open and Williams not throwing the ball to him.
While these are two separate scenarios, disgruntled family members of players are not something fans should worry about. But, with the disarray the Bears are in, it is. Hopefully, by the end of the season, Williams will show major improvement, and everyone will forget about all this drama.
