The Chicago Bears were one of the most active teams this offseason, in an attempt to turn things around. They used every avenue to get better. That included trades, free agency, and the NFL draft.

That only added to more competition on the roster, and that could spell bad things for Chicago Bears RB Travis Homer this summer.

Despite spending the last two seasons with Chicago, his spot is far from guaranteed, and he could be on the way out in a couple of weeks.

Bears' Travis Homer in Danger of Being Camp Cut

Homer re-signed with Chicago on a one-year, $1.75 million deal. Before coming to Chicago, he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks. In 26 career games with the Bears, he has 23 rushing yards and 11 receiving yards. Homer has played in 11% or less of the offensive snaps but was mostly out there for special teams (61% in 2023 & 63% in 2024).

He was never a prominent weapon in the offense and will enter training camp as the RB4. D'Andre Swift is the lead back, with Roschon Johnson likely to handle the RB2 role. In the meantime, they drafted Kyle Monangai in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Monangai has already been catching attention during OTA and minicamp. Per Clay Harbor, the Rutgers product was already a standout in minicamp. In June, he tweeted, "Kyle Monangai had an excellent practice today catching the football and making some nice plays. Very impressive for a rookie. Guys got some juice."

He even received some praise from head coach Ben Johnson, who stated, "Kyle Monangai has really stepped up. I appreciate the attention to detail and the pride he takes and how quickly he's picking things up, as well."

We know that Swift has been the most productive playmaker of the three, racking up 3,688 rushing yards, 1,798 receiving yards, and 37 total touchdowns. As for Johnson, he has 815 scrimmage yards and eight rushing scores in two seasons in Chicago.

These three tailbacks have all shown more than what Homer can provide, and it's easy to see why the Bears may release Homer by the end of the summer.
