Biggest winners on the Chicago Bears after roster cuts
Roschon Johnson
Johnson was the big winner at the third running back spot. He was competing with Salvon Ahmed, and the preseason might have shown Ahmed to be the better runner. However, Johnson completes the room more. He brings special teams ability, which gives him value even when he does not play on offense. He can also serve as a pass-protecting back, which Ahmed did not succeed at.
Hayden Large
The rookie UDFA was in a tough spot to make the roster. He was in a crowded tight end room. They had Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet as the top-tier starters. However, the drafting of Sam Roush solidified the top three. The fourth tight end did not feel needed. However, Large proved that cutting him would likely mean losing him. So, he made the roster.
Jordan McFadden
McFadden was entering the offseason, pushed by numbers and players around him. The Bears were deep at tackle, so it would have made sense if they wanted to keep an extra tackle and sacrifice some depth along the interior. Luke Newman has played left and right guard before.
More than competing with Newman and the tackles, McFadden had to beat out rookie UDFA Caden Barnett for the backup spot anyways. He did just that. Whether the tackles struggled or he performed well, he was the clear choice to make the team.
Kentavius Street
No player has seen their stock soar more than Street. He started the offseason on the roster bubble. However, he started every preseason game next to Gervon Dexter, filling in for Grady Jarrett.
Now, the team has traded Dexter. So, the thought would be that it will be Street starting next to Jarrett, after he performed well starting in the preseason. There is plenty of depth, which means he will not see a full workload. Still, do not be surprised if Street racks up starts in Chicago.
Keyshaun Elliott
Elliott had been on the PUP all offseason. His lack of practice time and the deep linebacker room in Chicago made it hard to see him sticking on the roster. Elliott stuck around while Ruben Hyppolite and Jack Sanborn were let go. Noah Sewell remains unhealthy. Still, Elliott making it is one of four linebackers was a surprise and a sign he might be healthy.
